Obituary of Edward Pavsek

Dr. Edward Joseph Pavsek, age 92, of State College, PA passed away on January 13 after a long illness. Edward was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Adelina D Pavsek. He is survived by his children, Mary Carol Pavsek, of New Jersey, Marianna P. Crowley and husband Timothy, of Massachusetts, Edward J. Pavsek, Jr., Adelina M. Welch of Maryland, Michael D. Pavsek of Colorado, Christopher P. Pavsek and Carolyn Lesjak of British Columbia, and Christina M. Welch and husband Steve of Pennsylvania, along with eighteen grandchildren. Edward was born on February 17, 1922, in Forest City, Pennsylvania. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Scranton, and his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. After Ed completed residency in radiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, he and Addie moved to Pittsburgh, PA, where he spent his career in the Radiology Department at Mercy Hospital. When he retired in 1987, Ed was the chief of the department. Ed was a veteran of the United States Airforce. He served in World War 2 as a First Lieutenant, and as a Captain and Medical Officer in the Korean War. Ed and Addie lived for over thirty years in Pittsburgh, and thereafter lived in Hyannisport, MA, Ponce Inlet, FL, and ultimately moved to State College, PA. A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend, Ed lived a full life with an amazing array of interests. He was an accomplished woodworker, gardener and baker, but his passion was fishing. He was an avid fly fisherman, and delighted in teaching his grandsons to tie flies. He will be sorely missed. Services will be private and burial will be at the West Laurel Hill Cemetery in Bala Cynwyd, PA. Memorial contributions may be directed to Casa de Amma, a supported apartment living community for adults with special needs, at 27231 Calle Arroyo, San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675, or by going to casadeamma.org in memory of Edward. J. Pavsek.
