Obituary of Ruth Asbury

Ruth E. Asbury, 93, of State College, died Monday, January 26, 2015, at the Village at Penn State Atrium, State College. Born October 25, 1921, in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late David D. and Annie E. Jones. On October 10, 1960, she married Clement B. Asbury who preceded her in death on May 1, 1996. She is survived by her cousins, Barbara Asbury Fisher and her husband, John, of State College and their three children, Laurie Hundertmark and her husband, Brian, John B. Fisher and his wife, Kathryn and Kenneth Fisher and his wife, Elizabeth; Constance Marilyn Spencer and her husband, Robert, of Upland, CA and their two children, Keane Spencer and his wife, Cecile and Keith Spencer and his wife, Carla. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her son, Christian David Asbury, on January 25, 1986 and her brother, Thomas N. Williams, on June 7, 2006. Ruth was a graduate of Meyers High School in Wilkes-Barre and a graduate of Wyoming Seminary in Kingston. She retired from the Acme Steel Company after seven years of service as an accountant. Prior to that she was employed as an accountant for the W. N. Nicholson Company for thirteen years and Wells Fargo Security for seven years. Ruth was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. She volunteered at the Centre Community Hospital Gift Shop. Over many years Ruth took in and personally cared for several relatives. Her greatest joy was doing things for her family and friends. A celebration of life will be held at a later date at the Village at Penn State, 160 Lions Hill Road, State College. Arrangements will be announced when complete. Burial will be in Ridgefield Cemetery, Ridgefield, New Jersey. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian David Asbury Scholarship Fund, Muhlenberg College, 2400 Chew Street, Allentown, PA 18104.
